Floor mats are a great idea for areas where there is high traffic as well if you have them.

Other Temporary Hardwood Floor Protection

Most people don’t have enough floor mats to cover all the high traffic areas in their home. If this is the case, you can use other protective covers instead. Some of these covers may include:

• Plastic floor covering
• Drop cloths
• Old blankets or sheets

Don’t Drag Heavy Furniture on Hardwood Floors

When you are moving your furniture, it is important that you don’t drag it across your floors. There are dollies that have rubber tires to help move heavy furniture and boxes. You can also use furniture sliders to help you get those heavy objects from one place to another without damaging your flooring.

Protecting Hardwood Flooring from Wet Shoes

If you are unfortunate enough to have to move in rain or snow, you want to take extra care. Make sure that the mats inside your doorways are heavy duty and able to handle the moisture from outside. You should also consider having another floor mat placed on the outside of the door to help remove any salt, mud and other debris that come with inclement weather.

Take Furniture Measurements Before the Move

Before move in day gets here, it is a good idea to take some measurements to make sure your furniture will fit in your home. You don’t want to get stuck in any doorways and end up causing damage to your walls and floors as you try to force large pieces of furniture through an opening that is too small.
