How to Repair Scratches on Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Luxury vinyl flooring is very durable and can last a long time with little care. However, they still can develop scratches and scuff marks from pets, furniture, and shoes. When minor scratches and scuff marks happen on your luxury vinyl flooring, it is not the end of the world. There are many vinyl repair kits which is like a wax sealer that fills in the tiny scuff marks or minor scratches on your floors. Most repair kit starts as a liquid and after it is dry, the scratches and scuffs are gone. The repair kits are easy to use and restores the look of your floor.
How Do I Get Deep Scratches Out of Luxury Vinyl Plank Floors
When luxury vinyl flooring develops deeper scratches, often a repair kit won’t cut it. At times, the damaged piece of flooring will need to be replaced. Replacing the damaged part of luxury vinyl flooring can be a bit difficult but not impossible. There are two major types of luxury vinyl flooring installation methods. One is a floating installation method and the other is a glue down. Replacing a damaged piece of the flooring for both types of installation methods will vary.
Floating Vinyl Plank Flooring Repair
When repairing floating vinyl flooring you will need to find the closet wall to the damaged piece. You will need to unclick all of the pieces until your reach the damaged piece, keeping the pieces in the right spot for re-installation. Remove the damaged plank and replace it with a new one. Then re-install all of the pieces back into their spot. Make sure all of the planks lock back in place tightly.

Repairing damaged vinyl plank that was glued down can be a bit more tricky. First measure out the length of the scratch. You will cut out the damaged piece and measure out and cut a replacement piece. Make sure the replacement piece fits in tightly to prevent obvious line markers. Using a heat gun or blow torch, heat up the damaged piece which will loosen the adhesive so the damaged piece can be removed. Once the damaged piece has been removed, get the replacement piece as well as steam rollers and some adhesive. Put the glue on the replacement piece and use the steam roller to push down and secure the edges as the glue dries.
